Gov. Kate Brown announced earlier today that all Oregon’s Public Schools will remain closed for the rest of the 2020 academic year. This decision came after New York had one of it’s worst days with more than 700 deaths.
From OregonLive; But the additional month and a half of school closure, beyond that already announced, “is the best thing we can do for the health of our children and for thousands of educators across the state,” Brown said.
This will go into effect immediately. It is unsure at this moment what PPS will do with seniors graduating. The impact is huge on seniors as they may not be able to experience a traditional graduation ceremony. Many students in PPS rely on the food given to them, which is why PPS will continue serving those students nutritional food.
Portland Public Schools (PPS) has had uncertainty about how there online system will work as many students do not have access to computers and wifi. With the PPS decision to switch to online school, they’re lending Chromebooks to students who need it.
